The Story

Victoria was created as a Christmas commission from a daughter to her mother.

Named after the woman who would receive it, the portrait depicts the person perhaps most precious to her — her daughter.

There is something deeply intimate in that gesture: a daughter giving her own image back to the woman who gave her life.

What began as a portrait became a reflection on the invisible bond between generations — on love, memory and the quiet ways in which one life continues through another.

The Artwork

The portrait was created entirely by hand over the course of four weeks, building the image slowly, thread by thread, on transparent tulle.

Rather than filling every part of the composition, much of the material is deliberately left untouched. The negative space is not an absence, but part of the work itself. The portrait appears to emerge from the transparency — present and almost weightless at the same time.

Light passes freely through the tulle and the embroidered lines, allowing shadows to become part of the work and subtly changing its presence throughout the day.

An Unframed Presence

For Victoria, the original 35 cm embroidery hoop was intentionally kept as the final presentation of the work.

Its simplicity preserves something particularly intimate about the process. Nothing separates the finished artwork from the object in which it was created.

The piece can live suspended on a wall or rest quietly within an interior, allowing the surrounding space, light and architecture to become part of its composition.

A Personal Heirloom

Victoria was created as a Christmas gift, but never intended to exist merely as one.

It carries the possibility of becoming an heirloom — an image of a daughter preserved not through a photograph, but through thousands of individual gestures made by hand.

An object that belongs to one woman today, and may one day carry her story into another generation.
